This lack of full awareness of the present can negatively affect our mental and physical health. This is where mindfulness comes in, a practice that is gaining more and more followers around the world. In this article, we'll explore the concept of mindfulness and how its practice can significantly improve our mental and physical health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>What is Mindfulness?<\/h3>\n<p>Mindfulness is a form of meditation that involves the ability to be present in the present moment intentionally and without judgement. In other words, it involves paying attention to thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and the environment around us, cultivating a full awareness of the present moment.<\/p>\n<p>The practice of mindfulness has its roots in Buddhist meditation traditions, but today it is taught and practised in a secular way in many parts of the world.<\/p>\n<h3>How to practise Mindfulness?<\/h3>\n<p>Firstly, find a quiet, comfortable spot, sit or lie down in a relaxed position and focus on your breathing. Observe the sensation of the breath entering and leaving your body, concentrating completely on this process. When your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to your breathing, without judging yourself for getting distracted.<\/p>\n<p>For example, when eating, be aware of the flavours, textures and aromas of the food. When walking, feel the contact of your feet with the ground and the breeze touching your skin. As a result, by cultivating full awareness of the present moment, we can reduce stress, improve our ability to deal with emotions, increase concentration and promote better cardiovascular and immunological health.
